Silent Retreat - In the Eye of the Storm

Feb 19 - I went on a silent retreat prepared by Light of Jesus. It was held at Sacred Heart Novitiate, a retreat house somewhere in Novaliches (also just 10-mins away from lou's [family's] house, sakto!). The place was perfect, it's so neat and quiet and really forest-y - If you sit on the grass outdoors, all you will hear are the falling leaves, birds, sheep (yes, sheep!) and the wind. I took pictures in between prayers (hehe), I'll upload them sometime (pag sinipag. haha)

It was — in one word — PEACEFUL. Unlike in other retreats where there are several talks and activities, this silent retreat had just ONE talk. It's major activity, which lasted for about 5 hours, was to stay silent. even during meals, even when you bump into someone you know. Good that I didn't know anyone in the retreat (except for this 2 women I walked with from the gate to the hall), or staying silent could've been more torturous. hehe.

Simply, it's a day with the Lord, in a place with no one else but you and Him, with zero distraction, also with the focus on being "in the eye of the storm" again. Now I understand why the forwarded invitation about this enticed me in a snap — It was so meant for people like me, who still remain uknowingly restless, doubtful, distrusting, paranoid after trials...

...And for those who talk 24/7 like me? haha! You guys know how talkative and loud I am. 5 hours of silence is indeed a detox, in fact this is perhaps the longest daytime duration I was silent - no chatting, no texting, no checking of phone, no listening to radio/mp3 even.

It was one meaningful date, I'm really happy I went to this! Thanks Osy for forwarding this invitation to me. It was just what I needed. :)

5 hours of silence? Siguro magbabasa na lang ako or matutulog. HAHA! Seriously though, it's good to have zero distractions for a few hours. It helps you clear your mind. :)
