I've seen in the past few days how these networks' vans and trucks camped out outside of VMMC [aka veterans hospital] DAYS before Arroyo's transfer, and how they are reporting every detail of it -- like, the transfer could be by land or air, or escort vehicles were already seen, but they're not sure if Arroyo's already there, yada yada. Last night, about 10 video cams from different networks are readied, facing the north ave entrance, thinking Arroyos could quickly sneak in. OK...
Then I realized, yeah she could do that, but what's the big deal with seeing the entrance of her convoy?! It's not as if she's attending the court hearing for the first time, or finally entering the jail! DUDE, she will just be transferred!
Really, think about it, what's so important about the details of the transfer? At the end of the day (or week, or what, if it gets postponed once again), Arroyo will be moved to this presidential suite in VMMC, and will be under the continued hospital arrest. AND SO? why cause all this fuss?
I don't know if it's just me (because my dad's also confined in VMMC) but I really think the media's coverage on Arroyo's transfer to VMMC is insanely too much! don't get me wrong, I am an anti-gloria as well ...but now, I'm more anti-media, whose job is to make a big deal out of everything.
My new evil wish is to have her transferred by helicopter, so that all I could say to the media -- who camped out under the rain for days, and caused all the traffic in north ave --- is, HA-HA-HA! sucks for you!

Yet another appeal -- COME ON!
I am disturbed by how our government "takes care" of an "OFW concern": Binay appeals to stop the death sentence of a Filipino set to be executed in China.
First and foremost, I don't consider it a "concern" at all, if it means committing something known to be illegal. You see, I cannot go on the streets, posess an illegal drug, get caught, then absurdly call our company's HR office to say "I have a concern. SAVE ME!". It's also not a "concern" if it is actually a "mistake" with a history of irrevocable consequences. Come on, 3 were already executed. Appeals didn't work, so you think it will work this time?!
I hate to say this but -- Proceed with the execution. And let these carriers know that seriously, they are not allowed to bring illegal drugs in China. Or in any country. Hence it's called "illegal"! And do not send Binay to China, nor anyone, to appeal. And let these carriers know that when they get caught, there are no plan Bs. Hence don't proceed with plan As at all, right?
Send Binay somewhere else, to do something more logical. like improve our airport security to filter out these stuff upon exit, OR better yet, form a group dedicated to investigate where these drugs are coming from. Execute whoever employs these drug mules!

"Justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both."
I think I was only in 5th grade when I first heard about the Vizconde Massacre. When you're that young, sympathy always goes to the one who looks "kawawa"/oppressed while anger goes to suspect who's rich, and with a dad who's powerful. I never understood things deeply, all I knew was that there's this credible Jessica Alfaro (being impersonated by comedians by wearing huge sunglasses), the poor poor Mr. Vizconde whose family was killed, and the bad bad guy Hubert Webb. Why wouldn't you think that way, there was even the movie, The Vizconde Massacre! (which later on popularized massacre movies that era, by the way)
15 years later, Hubert Webb was acquitted, with the usual criticisms from the public - "wala nang pag-asa ang hustisya sa Pilipinas!", "Unfair, Webb should be raped and killed as well!", "Anong klaseng hustisya yan, malamang sa susunod, mga Ampatuan naman ang mapapawalang sala!", "sana bulabugin ng konsensya ang mga judge sa kanilang pagtulog!" etc etc. But gone is the thinking of a 12-year old girl. Here goes MY opinions:
Firstly, it could be wrong all along that we all believed in a one and only witness, Jessica Alfaro - who testified 4 long years after the crime, who had inconsistencies in testimonies, and who has a history of drug addiction. Secondly, Webb's evidence that it was physically impossible for him to be at the scene of the crime could be genuine, especially with his passport stamps and certifications from the US (see, we somewhat questioned the credibility of those in the US Department of State [or Department of Justice, whatever] with just one unreliable Jessica Alfaro?!). Thirdly, plainly, evidences and testimonies from other witnesses (village guards, laundry lady, etc) are not strong enough to put a man in prison for 15 years.
Lastly, I agree that Justice in this country is indeed slow. BUT hey, I still believe in the professionalism and credibility of our Judges.
So... As much as I pity Mr. Vizconde for not getting justice up till now, I also pity Hubert Webb for spending years in prison, when he could've spent those years building his own family, right? But all's done. May Mr. Vizconde still get that justice in the remaining years of his life, and may the Webbs cope for the years lost.

New leader has Facebook problems
ZAGREB, Jan 12 (Reuters!) - Croatia's newly elected president has run into a problem -- how to accept thousands of new friends on Facebook...
..."I have 5,000 friends, which is the maximum allowed on Facebook. I also have another 7,000 waiting so I don't know how we'll work that out" the silver-haired, bespectacled law expert and classical music composer told state radio on Tuesday.

The news about the Maguindanao massacre depresses me sometimes, believe it or not. It's too brutal that I can't express much on this post. It's too EVIL that I can't watch the news any longer. So, let me just say (if it would help): As we pray tonight, let's pray for quick justice, and for the healing of the victims' loved ones.

Ingat sa Mandurukot!
This morning I saw an actual "snatching", right before my very eyes! I was on the jeepney when the guy infront of me grabbed the bag of a student beside him (victim is a guy, about 17 yrs old). But before the snatcher could get off the jeep, WHICH WAS MOVING FAST BY THE WAY, the student was able to pull back his bag. The snatcher kept on pulling too, but the student never gave in. till finally the snatcher decided to get off and run quickly (at that point, the driver already stopped, maybe figured out what was happening!)
It turns out that the bag was the snatcher's bag! the student just pulled it because he believes that it has his stuff which the snatcher has been stealing the whole ride (hindi pala siya snatcher, mandurukot siya!). The student figured that out perhaps because the side pocket of his bag (a different bag, his real bag this time) had lots of cuts already. smart one! anyway, he scrutinized that snatcher's bag (dunno if he found any of his stuff) then threw it on the face of "guy B" beside him -and who's this guy? the snatcher's friend. yeah, I remember, guy B and the snatcher knew each other! They were talking to each other when I got in! So, as everyone was watching the entire commotion, guy B eventually got off too. I dunno if he was embarrassed or not, but either way he showed no remorse. nor fear. kapal! I wonder how many times they do it everyday?!
There, whew. I'm glad nothing really violent happened. I'm glad too I wasn't the victim, I could have freaked out. OR I would never notice the cuts on my bag till all the bad guys left. Though... on 2nd thought, if it was me, nothing bad could've happened... I learned from experience (I think! though, I believe anyone can be stupid anytime still!): When I was in college my cellphone was stolen, from that same style -I rode a jeep in buendia, then came 2 guys -one sat on my left, then the other on my right. the one on my left kept on moving towards me, but I thought it was because there are too many passengers on our row. Well, admittedly, I was a bit absent minded too that time. The next thing I knew the guys were gone, along with my cellphone. My bag had a tiny cut too -about the size of the phone's width. pro!
Since then, I've been so extra conscious of guys sitting too close (aka nanggigitgit). There was a time actually when I rode a jeepney somewhere in Susana then noticed that 3-4 guy passengers were already there. They seemed to know each other, BUT they let me sit between them. After sitting down for about 3 seconds, I stopped the jeep then transferred to a different one. I just can't trust that setup again.
So there, I just want to share that: it's christmas season once again, pickpockets are everywhere, so please be extra careful with your belongings, whether it's morning or afternoon or night, they choose no specific time during this season! Do not sit between two people if you think they know each other. Especially on jeepneys.
(and what's the relation between christmas and need for money btw? For the family's keso de bola or hamonado? Really, I don't understand why some has to do such grave thing to celebrate Jesus' birthday. HELLO!?)

Have a solemn Undas, and Happy Halloween!
Again, the news is all about the upcoming traffic jam and congested terminals coz of Undas. Since I was a child, I've always wondered why filipinos always go through that hassle when they know what to expect -heavy traffic, chaotic cemeteries, pickpockets, akyat-bahay, etc. when they can enjoy the non working holidays at home then visit the dead on other occassions like birthdays and death anniversaries, right? hehe, we were never raised to strictly go with pinoy traditions so I'll never understand.
Anyway, to all those going out of town this long weekend, enjoy and take care! Your departed loved ones will all be in my prayers this weekend. yeah I'll just stay at home, enjoy long sleeps and do that long weekend job (room cleaning as usual! haha!)

Use technology responsibly. PLEASE.
I'm disappointed with how technology is used now to promote panic, wrong information and sometimes anger. when it's not the best time to do so.
2 days after Ondoy, several friends in FB had wall posts sharing that people near the Marikina Dam must evacuate as water will soon be released from it. Just several hours after that, it was clarified in Inquirer.net that there's no need to panic as there's no such thing as "Marikina Dam" to begin with.
The next day, I read wall posts also from FB that several crocodiles escaped from Pasig Nature park due to flood. Later that evening, in TV patrol, it was clarified that it's not true. Then there was a follow up the next day: YES, ONE crocodile was found, but it's not from the said park.
Last night, forwarded YM messages and wall posts from FB (again) shared that a typhoon is coming and that brownout will start by 9pm. True there is a coming typhoon, but there's no brownout, which was clarified as early as last night (before 9pm) that Meralco will not shut the electricity unless an area is flooded.
Then this morning, when I opened the TV, I saw Kris Aquino clarifying how efforts are being made now by ABS-CBN to help the victims. Apparently some text message now is going around that the release of goods in ABS-CBN is slow, that ABS-CBN is not cooperating with the government, and that "nagpapaantay" kapamilya stars are delaying the release.
Kris said it's not true, the release is slow because they don't have enough trucks. She (and other stars) even had to use their personal vans to bring goods. They also are working hand in hand with the government, in fact Mayor Ilagan of Cainta is with them now to coordinate, and some Army soldiers are also in ABS-CBN to help. Lastly, she said, ABS-CBN stars do not delay the release. She for example have been there as early as 7:45 am, then saw Toni Gonzaga waiting for an hour already. Most stars, she stressed out, have been working day and night, but still have to help in the relief center early the next day, so why do people have to make such negative remarks? I liked one of her lines "si [ganito] nag donate ng isang milyon. si [ganito] nagbigay ng two hundred thousand [and so on]. asawa ko tingnan mo buong araw na nandito namimigay ng pagkain, basang basa sa pawis. ikaw, ano na ba natulong mo?"
I agree with Kris Aquino, "sa halip na na gamitin sa pagpapakalat ng text ang piso, idonate mo nalang." and as for the online stuff, I guess the best thing to do is to get information from reliable sources. Don't just keep on forwarding and posting if you're not sure about it. better post links from official sites rather than reposting N-hand information. I know posting and forwarding messages intend to help or to show concern, but look, irresponsible use can lead to panic and misunderstanding. which we certainly don't need at the moment.

A storm to remember
Today's not a weekend, as Ondoy washed away homes and stopped commuters in streets for hours amidst rain and flood. Indeed, there's so much loss today. Ironically the calamity peak happened while I was with ginpom people, celebrating Tisha and Jay's birthday in Alabang -We could've stayed longer at Starbucks ATC, if not a lot started sending text messages on how the flood is ruining almost the entire Metro Manila.
So even if it was only 4pm, we got up and decided to go home. Tisha planned to drive everyone to Susana heights to get buses (EDSA and Lawton-bound buses) while I planned to go with her till the corner near their house as I live just nearby. After dropping them, we two didn't go home right away as we waited for them to get buses, which never happened because each bus that passed by (at the rate of 1 bus per 15 mins) was so full. There were no jeeps going to Alabang either as all vehicles were stuck in San Pedro flood. So... in short, the birthday celebration turned into an impromptu Muntinlupa sleepover, with the majority of people in Tisha's house. the transpo problem was a blessing in disguise though. if they got in a bus then they could've been stuck for hours all night.
I didn't realize how serious the situation was when electricity went back and we finally got to watch TV. Ondoy damaged A LOT -poor and rich alike. I can't get over the videos of washed out houses, people waiting for rescue, and bodies found after mud flow =( I myself know a friend who lost their house, saving nothing except themselves (I just got the news this afternoon). I don't know how I could help at the moment, except for giving some of my clothes and sacrificing my coming salary.
I just have to share what everyone has been posting in facebook (I'm sorry for stealing pictures ehehe). I got the following pics from this facebook profile. Gosh, look at the marian quadrangle! I really feel like I have to show this to my fellow lasalista alumnus:
Ondoy is such a great storm, one of the storms I'll never forget (like Rosing when I was in grade school, Caloy during our company outing in Calatagan, and Milenyo 3 years ago). This time it was a storm that chose no one, it damaged all walks of life in Metro Manila. It wasn't even a signal #3 storm, but it brought water instead of wind, it poured a MONTH-worth of rain for just 6 HOURS, ruining most cities in very unexpected ways. In fact, according to the news, there are still people from Rizal, Marikina, Pasig and QC who are on their roofs and some inside their houses, trapped by flood, waiting for rescue since yesterday. In Arayat, Pampanga meanwhile, a lot were buried by landslide. By now, all in all, 70+ are dead, and 20+ are missing.
May victims get rescued soon, and may these places and bereaved families, recover after the calamity. May this storm also serve as a message to everyone (not only to filipinos), that mother earth can get even to anyone, anytime.

What news should be!
I rarely watch the news as it becomes more and more ridiculous each day (politics, economy, a(h1-ewan), crimes, small news from eskenitas that aren't relevant etc etc) but last night I gave it a chance ...and I was quite lucky to catch several good news :)
1) PNR is back to life! Phil. National Railways has new, airconditioned coaches (plus old coaches later on, to be refurbished locally) which are now running from Tutuban to Sucat, at very affordable rates. Before the year ends, hopefully, trains will run from CALOOCAN TO BICOL! I can't wait to say goodbye to the highway traffic and expensive bus fares. I will definitely try Alabang to Vito Cruz once the Alabang terminal's already operational! [read more]
2) Cell phone load validity will be extended! As NTC's response to Enrile's "vanishing load" issue, credits of P10-P50 will be valid for 5 days; P50 to P100 for 30 days; P100 to P250 for 60 days and P250-300 for 75 days STARTING SUNDAY. 1) PNR is back to life! Phil. National Railways has new, airconditioned coaches (plus old coaches later on, to be refurbished locally) which are now running from Tutuban to Sucat, at very affordable rates. Before the year ends, hopefully, trains will run from CALOOCAN TO BICOL! I can't wait to say goodbye to the highway traffic and expensive bus fares. I will definitely try Alabang to Vito Cruz once the Alabang terminal's already operational! [read more]

LPG & Cell Phones = definitely can't go together
Just this morning, my mom received a bad news --that yesterday, my uncle got 40% burned because of an LPG explosion. according to her (this story may no longer be 100% accurate as I got the news from my mom, who got the news from my uncle's sister), my uncle noticed that it's been smelling gas in their house so he went near the LPG tank to see what's wrong, when his carpenter's phone rang. Immediately after the carpenter answered the phone, a fast and strong flame surged from the phone, passed through the atmosphere then burned my uncle, his helper who happened to be in the kitchen too, and of course the carpenter -the most injured among them. I wasn't able to grasp the exact incident but I imagined it as a quick fire that just passed through, scorched whatever it touched then disappeared as quick. the house was not burned, there was no big explosion either.
google didn't give me much explanation when I typed in "LPG" and "cell phone" except for a related news here. yes there was an LPG blast --caused by the phone, said by some official, but that theory was never proved.

so there, I hope this post will avoid the same incident to others ...by telling everyone to PLEASE, BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS when dealing with gas and cell phones at the same area especially when it's indoor. it's ok to be hesitant, it's ok to be doubtful about this matter (or about this myth. whatever you call it) ...but it's a lot better to practice a known precaution by just turning off our phones. wala naman mawawala.
right now I have no idea how my uncle is. all I know is that he's still in the hospital, and will probably there for the next N days. we can't visit at the moment, so this morning I just prayed, asked God to help him recover, then thanked Him that after all that happened, my uncle survived.

Upon entering the office, I unloaded my stuff as always, grabbed my kikay kit then went to the bathroom, ready to spend the next 15 minutes freshening up (hilamos after commute, make up then ayos buhok).
As I looked at myself on the mirror, I then realized how God can take away your face, your skin, your whole body --in just a snap. for a reason you wouldn't instantly understand. and so I offered a tiny sacrifice ...I skipped that few minutes of vanity, went back to my cube, then again prayed for my Uncle, who I hope would recover as soon as possible...

people power daw?
80,000 rallyists? oh c'mon, it's not even half of that in EDSA 1 & 2! There will never be another people power... filipinos are tired of it.
