Home Valentine

Valentine's day: I started one of my 2011 goals - to learn how to cook ravioli (and TO MASTER IT). It was A LOT MORE COMPLICATED than I thought!!! For one, I don't have a mixer and pasta maker, nor rolling pin, so I used wine bottle (hehee! got this idea from my sister, and a lot of sites!). So my dough wasn't so thin, making the cooked ravioli chewy, rather than soft (imagine eating cold empanada. haha!). I have a feeling that if I used a rolling pin, it would just be a lil better, but still not perfect. Nothing beats a pasta maker I guess - I'm thinking of buying one. hmmm.

ravioli dough
mixing and kneading
and all. really messy. grr.
ravioli dough
you have to "rest" it in a plastic,
30 mins at least. :)

my raviolis, before boiling.
I KNOWWWW. PLEASE... DONT... LAUGH. hehe!

I loved the filling though — sauteed garlic and spinach + cheese. we both loved it actually, Lou and I agreed that it's not ravioli after all, but SPINACH AND CHEESE "SURPRISE" because the cheesy filling explodes in your mouth. haha! The sauce was great too (at least I think it was), I made the usual red sauce - tomatoes + onions + basil.

It was only the dough that failed me! Oh well. Apparently, I still haven't attained my goal... because I didn't MASTER it, my dough still needs a lot of work. (I'm not posting the pic of the final product by the way, I don't think it looked appetizing! haha!)

Then, here's my little surprise for Lou:

bacon bacon bacon!!!

Bacon of all sorts, Yakimix style! I bought 1 kilo of bacon from the grocery (half was regular, half was lean) — Some plain, some for bacon asparagus, and some for my own teriyaki marinade &mdash all for grilling, using my electric stove and square non stick pan! I just know he'll love this, and yes he did! and I enjoyed it as much!

At the end of the night, we concluded that we don't have to go to Yakimix next time just to satisfy our craving for bacon. This one's a lot cheaper (in fact, we finished just half of it, the other half went to mae's housewarming. haha!), plus it's a lot more comfy to cook your food on your own table, with no time limit!

I know what we had wasn't an ideal date, but it's actually my best valentines date, ever. haha!

yung ravioli that I remember from Olive Garden in Seattle, masflat siya, tapos masmalaki yung width/length niya kung baga. hirap i explain eh. basta yun!

yup, i think it's supposed to be flat talaga, basing it rin from the last time I had ravioli, sa CPK :D

though sa recipes na binabasa ko, di naman sinabi na it's supposed to be flat or big or small or what, but they usually say "put espresso-cup size of filling"

i'm still hoping for flat raviolis though, next time i make them ;) hehe!
