Our topic for lunch: name origins.
To be honest, I don't know exactly why my parents named me Aleydis, "wala lang!" as I always tell my friends when they ask. Sometimes I actually wish my name had a deep meaning! As far as I know, at least it was gotten from a "book of uncommon names" which my mom borrowed from someone (or a book she actually owned, was borrowed by someone and was never returned, can't really remember...). Mennn, so I don't have any proof!
At least too my name had 7 letters - a "specification" my parents had, since they both had first names and last names with 7 letters, giving us 3 siblings with 7-lettered first names, middle name and last name (7-7-7!). Thus it's been a joke that we each (being all girls) should marry a guy with a 7-lettered family name to continue the rule. Bad news is, both my sisters didn't marry guys with 7-lettered last names. Good news is, I'm still single - the only one left single - and my boyfriend's last name is 7 letters! (Lord, no one else can continue the trend, so please let this be it! haha!)
Now the nickname Leda - I believe - came from the names of my parents Galileo and Zenaida. Though sometimes I'd like to think "Leda" has no meaning at all, otherwise it's unfair for my sisters who have nicknames based just on their full names, right? haha!
Anyway, I like "Leda" and how it's been tweaked by different people. My preschool teachers called me "Leyda" or "Aleyda" basing it from "Aleydis" I guess. Close friends call me "Leds", Sometimes my sisters call me "Led", while an ex boyfriend's mom called me "Le". Can there be anything shorter? haha!
Read: My childhood friend called me "Bed" because - as he explained - pronouncing "Leda" with an "L" makes him spurt a lil of his saliva (eh...?! My mom found it amusing, so she uses Bed too sometimes. errr.). Oh, sometimes I use "Lea" in Starbucks just so I don't have to spell my name (coz sometimes they write "Leta" or "Lena"!). There! Now I'm wondering if I still have a nickname out there that's yet to be discovered! hmmm.
Okay, so in short, Aleydis is unique and patterned after some specs. While Leda was derived from my parents' names, and varied in funny ways over the years. SO, My name isn't boring after all!
You, what's in your name? :)

"Aleydis" rin tawag ko sayo pag tinetext kita or chat or whenever I want to give emphasis on you name, haha!
Anyway, it's nice to know that Lou got a 7-lettered surname ;-) la lang, para pareho tayo... 7-7-7-7! =D
Lastly, I'd like to think that my name is also unique (madalas nga lang napagkakamalang pang guy, haaayz!) at marami na ring nicknames na nag-evolve through the years: lit-lit, lit, litz, lits, cie, ciely, cielly, cielo, at syempre tolits, haha!
haha tolits!!!
onga, isa ka ngapala sa mga tumatawag sakin ng aleydis! (at malamang, isa ako sa tumatawag sayo ng CIELITO :P hehe)
aba onga noh 7-7-7 ka dati, now 7-7-7-7! (shempre nagbilang ako bago mag comment hehe) ang galing!
