Haven for Children Halloween Party

Last Saturday, I got a chance to attend an outreach program again, after a really really long time. The last time was during college I think! Thanks to Del who organized the whole thing. Good job!

It was held at DSWD NCR Haven for Children, an orphanage located just right across ATC. I thought it would be the usual where we'll feed kids, give gifts, and all that. Turns out that it was a real halloween party, where kids (all boys btw) were SO into it - they wore zombie costumes, they had realistic halloween decors, and they danced almost the whole night! (Thriller and other pop songs, with full choreography!)

As for the Halloween Decoration contest, do not underestimate these kids - they came up with really creative ideas! One team had a creepy house made of twigs, with a "road" in front, labeled "Balete Drive". There was even a toy car to complete the props. haha! Our fave was the cemetery labeled "Loyola Memorial Park" - it had tombs, vines, dried grass and the kids themselves as the dead people. haha!

But what I really liked most was the "Lamay". There's a coffin, surrounded by flowers, chairs, candles, and all that. Upon judging, the kids acted like someone really died - a real kid lied in the coffin, kids around him cried, then the "dead" kid rose then walked like a zombie! then the other kids ran, shouting like they're so terrified! haha, really hilarious! Too bad, I wasn't able to take a pic, as it was really dark and chaotic (imagine, a kid rose from the dead!!! hahaha!)

After eating, and before the announcement of winners, these kids taught us to dance, they literally dragged us to the dance floor. It was sweet, how can you say no??! haha! It was tiring but these kids were so hyper, they never got tired! They just kept on dancing Thriller and Justin Bieber songs, which was really amazing (one kid by the way corrected my dance steps at one point. oops sorry po! hahaha!). These kids are so bibbo!!!

All in all it was fun and fulfilling! I'm so glad Del came up with this event. These jolly kids deserve such parties once in a while. As the emcee said, "I hope this isn't the first and last party from kuya Rondel." I also hope so! I'm hoping we could do this again next year! :)
