Ever since Manila started experiencing serious floods (waaaay before Ondoy), I became extra conscious of waste disposal, being earth friendly and all those stuff "to save the earth". It's been frustrating though when you know that it takes thousands, or even MILLIONS of individuals with that thought to really save the earth. Like, I've thought of using the bicycle going to work, but will that lessen the number of old jeepneys traveling everyday? NO right? Or, if I don't use plastic bags for my groceries, will that lessen the tons of non bio garbage sent to our dump sites everyday? also NO right? BUT, it takes ONE to convince another, or maybe millions. you'll never know.
So I decided to start with some personal vows that will change my lifestyle a bit: I'll no longer use plastic bags for my groceries. I'll use those save-mother-earth reusable cloth bags from SM or shopwise instead. As I buy a bag of ALPO every week, I'll actually spare myself from keeping at least 4 huge plastic bags a month, or 48 plastic bags a year. whoa!
Then I'll no longer use straws for my fastfood drinks. If I eat in a fastfood resto at least once a week then I'll be able to lessen Manila's garbage by not disposing 1 straw a week, 4 straws a month, or a whole pack of straws in a year!
Effects may be unoticeable, but this is much better than doing nothing right? and, they may not be direct solutions to global warming, at least they will compensate for the frequent storms and rains we're having now.
I know I could do more, but I don't think I can adjust that easily. So that's it for now. Next month I'll think of more earth-friendly ideas. :)
