06.16.11 - La Salle's 100th!!!

06.16.11 - La Salle's 100th year of existence in the country!

I thought I can just be apathetic or at most join the bandwagon in posting DLSU-related stuff in FB ...but then I realized, how many centennials can you celebrate in a lifetime? So at the last minute I attempted to grab a centennial concert ticket ...but as expected, it was sold out. So I just went to DLSU after work, with no definite plans. "fireworks will do", I told myself. haha!

What actually happened though was about 2 hours of walking back and forth from Yuchenco to Gox, then back to Yuchenco again, with Del and Sally. I've already missed a lot of activities, but at least I saw a bit of String & Stanzas (some centennial performance of Chamber Ensemble I guess?), a bit of the street party/free concert in Agno, and the contagious party mood of everyone!

At least too I had the whole night to walk on the halls of DLSU, it's all worth it when it's only once in a blue moon to see SO MANY people inside the school, [almost] all wearing green centennial shirts (in different designs!). What's more rewarding for the almuni (like me!) is to see how DLSU evolved since graduation. The aquarium -- for example -- has this colorful mural already (thanks raffy for the link!), the football field is gone (which is actually sad for me...), and the cybernook has a totally different aura, having couches and CBTL inside! wow, right? As if it was really long ago since I last visited DLSU. I think my last visit was just 2 years ago! Some pics:

Some things never change though, funny how Del wanted to have a pic taken with this photocopier under the stairs of Miguel building. Do you remember this area??? (HAHA, I remember sneakily looking at my left/right to check if someone is watching us while taking photos -- Katakot baka mahuli tayo ng DO!!! Seriously, that's the first thing that popped in my head. Lasallian instict?! hahaha!)

del, using ate's photocopier. tsk!
"lagot tayo kay mang jack..."

The night ended with an awesome 5mins-long fireworks, followed by the singing of alma mater song led by Gary V! together with some lasallian stars on stage! It was oh so nostalgic especially when the combined voices/cheers seemed as if it can be heard anywhere in metro manila!

The whole time I was happy that I didn't let my laziness stop me from attending this centennial event, otherwise I missed a lot! I was overwhelmed too, knowing I just took part in DLSU's (perhaps) most important event ...of the century. I was also tired, from the heat, the crowd, the walking and all ...but I was really really satisfied. Of course, more than anything else that night, I felt...

PROUD TO BE A LASALLIAN.

ANIMO LA SALLE!!!

I have you, finally!

I actually don't like to show off new stuff ...but I guess I have an excuse if I got something which I wanted for more than 5 years now ...and if it's a la salle item, bought by an atenean boyfriend as his Christmas gift (hahaha! I really love saying that -- it annoys him. haha!).

Finally I got an Adidas La Salle jacket! centennial design!

I guess it was a blessing in disguise that I didn't purchase a La Salle jacket in the recent years. If I did, then I wouldn't have an excuse to pick this centennial jacket as one of my Christmas wishes. That would be a regret because the design is really cool ...and limited! In fact, mine was the last piece in Planet Sports Glorietta! (Hence Lou purchased this Christmas gift earlier than planned!)

Oh I really love this. This is perhaps the best Christmas gift I received (so far) this year. Thanks Lou :)

Checkout other DLSU centennial items (before it's too late!):

(I almost purchased the Centennial 2401 Watch last month, coz of this evil influence. hahaha, peace, Cie! Good that Swatch was closed when I wanted to check it out. I'm really meant to have the jacket instead. and I'm really happy about it! heehee!)

UM [and DLSU] of today

I went to DLSU the other night to meet Ate Mel - my SOLV sister who I haven't seen for a long time. Originally we planned to stroll around DLSU so she could show me all the new stuff ...but then that was already 6pm, it was dark already, and it may not be that fun anymore.

So instead, we checked out the newly renovated... UM! yes, UNIVERSITY MALL! I knew months ago that it was closed. I thought that it's gone for good, and that a new building will come up, or something. Turns out that it was just renovated. Now it's back, good as new, and with a whole new aura!

Well, the size and layout of the entire building's still the same. But the floors are now shiny white, bathrooms are clean (at least for now!) and stores (opening soon) seem more sosy compared to the old UM. Soon to open restos - as far as I can remember- are World Chicken, Persia Grill, and Coffee Bean and Tea leaf. (KFC btw was also renovated, gone are the old tables and chairs!)

I'm looking forward to my next visit. :)

I remember one conversation btw...
Me: kikita ba to, parang ndi naman pang studyante mga kainan dito
Ate Mel: oo naman! yung coffee bean and tea leaf nga sa loob ng library e kumikita e!

wait.. what?! coffea bean and tea leaf?? inside DLSU library? haha! Gee, I really should have a tour inside my alma mater soon. :)
